After spending
weeks learning about El Greco and Spanish art and architecture, it was exciting
for me to finally get to go to Toledo. It’s a small city near Madrid, that’s
perfect for a day excursion. Our Spanish Study Abroad class took a field trip
to the city on Halloween. We visited the Mezquita Christo de la Luz, originally
built 1000 years ago as a small mosque. Then, inside the Iglesia de Santo Tome,
we saw the emblematic “El Entierro del Conde de Orgaz” by El Greco. Finally, we
learned about Jewish culture in the Sinagoga de Santa Maria la Blanca and the
Monasterio de San Juan de los Reyes. While we took a couple one to many breaks
for unnecessary souvenir shopping, overall Toledo was a great place to spend
the Halloween holiday, before heading back to Madrid for Halloween night.
